| As we know static electricity will damage solid sensitive electronics, such as integrated circuits. People are the greatest source of static charge in the workplace, The material our clothes are made from and the soles of our shoes can influence static electricity too. The main purpose of Anti-Static Clothing/Garments is to minimise risks of ESD failures to sensitive electronics due to charged clothing, Anti-Static Clothing/Garments have conductive threads in them, creating a wearable version of a faraday cage. Anti-Static Clothing/Garments attempt to shield ESD sensitive devices from harmful static charges from clothing such as wool, silk, and synthetic fabrics on people working with them. Thus it should also provide shielding against any surface voltages or voltage transients arising from underlying garments. In some cases the Anti-Static Clothing/Garments are not used just to prevent ESD damage to electronics but also to prevent the electronics from being damaged by the contamination of dust particles (cleanroom clothing).
